Dr. Cowie has been living in and practicing chiropractic in Nova Scotia since 1990. After graduating from chiropractic college in Toronto, she took over an existing practice and has loved every minute here. She grew up in health-oriented family where her father was a chiropractor. "I found it amazing that patients here in Nova Scotia were so like the ones in my Dad's practice where I worked on Saturday mornings as a secretary. Hard-working, sincere, with love of their homes and families."
Dr. Cowie enrolled in chiropractic college somewhat late in life! She had already worked for fifteen years as a counsellor in community colleges helping people make changes in their careers and wanted to help people in an even more important way with their health and wellness. Not withstanding the late start, she graduated cum laude from clinic internship.
Dr. Cowie has served on the regulating body for chiropractic in Nova Scotia for many years in various capacities. She is the recipient of the Chiropractor of the Year award from Nova Scotia and of the Award of Merit for service to the profession from the Canadian Chiropractic Association.
Dr. Cowie lives in Bridgewater with her husband, Bill Pyke, a cabinet-maker, and Winston the canary and Mistee the dog. She likes to go up to camp on County Line Lake and sailing with Bill on Ra.
Dr. Flynn is from Dartmouth, Nova Scotia and graduated from the Canadian Memorial Chiropractic College in 2011. She attended St. Francis Xavier University, graduating with a BSc in Human Kinetics. During her university years, she co-founded the St. FX Dance Troup and taught tap, jazz, lyrical and hip hop dance to 13-17 year olds. She also worked as a tutor and enjoyed volunteering with cerebral palsy patients and at chiropractic clinics.
Dr. Flynn had the privilege of completing her clinical internship at CMCC's Sherbourne Health Centre in Toronto dealing with complex cases among a diverse patient population and completing a mentorship with Dr. Rhonda Kirkwood at CBI Bedford. There she was exposed to WCB cases managed by an integrated health care team.
Dr. Flynn is also certified in Active Release Techniques (ART) and completed her Contemporary Acupuncture at McMaster University.
Dr. Fahie grew up in Mount Uniacke, Nova Scotia and attended Dalhousie University, graduating with a Bachelor of Science with Honours in Kinesiology. Her interest in spinal care began there while she researched and then co-published a research study on neck pain in wheelchair users. After graduation, she took a year off to work with two gentlemen with brain injuries, as well as at a fitness program for people with disabilities.
Dr. Fahie then went on to study chiropractic at the Canadian Memorial Chiropractic College in Toronto and graduated cum laude in 2006. In addition to her chiropractic studies, she has trained in Active Release Techniques and Activator Methods. She has been providing chiropractic care in Bridgewater since 2007.
Dr. Fahie is a member of the:

Irene was born and raised in Bridgewater. She started her career as a Department Head at Zellers, then went on to become a hair stylist. Spreading her wings, she moved to beautiful British Columbia where she taught hairdressing, and then became a medical office assistant.
Upon her return to Nova Scotia, she worked in family medicine, gynecological and urological offices before becoming involved with chiropractic. Employed with Dr. Cowie for 13 years, she took a two-year leave to become an entrepreneur; she, her husband, and daughter Joanne are proud owners of Curves in Liverpool.
With the love and support of her friends and family - with her grandson being the "apple of her eye" - she leads an active life. Always excited to be part of a new adventure, she is delighted to support Drs. Cowie and Fahie in their new clinic.

In September 2010, she went on to NSCC to study Medical Office Administration where she graduated in June 2011. While at NSCC, she was involved in the Student Ambassador program and volunteered around the campus whenever she could. Her love of people led her to her first job at Dairy Queen where she was a supervisor for 3 years. Her love of animals led her to S.H.A.I.D Tree Animal Shelter where she volunteered whenever she had the time which then turned into a part time job.
Shawna loves a challenge and being busy, and is looking forward to working with Drs Cowie and Fahie at LaHave River Chiropractic.
